Social Club collapse to another heavy defeat

Willow Cuts, 136 for none, beat Social Club, 132 all out, by –10 wickets. For the second straight week a dramatic middle order collapse was responsible for the demise of Social Club.At Wellington Oval yesterday, batting woes by the home side saw them succumb to a heavy defeat. Last week it was a similar story against Bailey’s Bay.Against Bay they lost their last five wickets for the addition of a mere two runs, this time it was less humilating but only 10 runs were managed to be scraped up by their last five bats before they suffered a 10-wicket defeat.Willow Cuts openers Chris Douglas and young Joshua Commissiong did a demolition job on the Social Club’s bowling attack as they chased the winning target of 133, the duo reaching victory off 31.1 overs with Douglas striking an undefeated 70 and 15-year-old Commissiong an unbeaten 45.Douglas hit four sixes and five fours while his opening partner cracked five fours.Social Club’s bowlers laboured for a wicket though they were unlucky when veteran Charlie Marshall, fielding in slips, dropped Douglas when he was on 27 and the total at 55.Earlier Social Club skipper Rodney Trott must have wondered if he made the right move by switching from Bailey’s Bay to Social Club as his current team-mates struggled with numbers, forcing the side to start with just eight men. The skipper was relieved to be in the position to bat first and not having to field short. The remaining three players finally showed up.But Social Club’s batting shortcomings were again exposed and for the second straight match they were unable to reach a respectable total. Thanks only to Charlie Marshall senior, they managed to advance into triple figures, as the veteran led the way with 45, striking three fours and two sixes.Marshall and skipper Rodney Trott offered some sort of stability at 54 for three, taking the total to 93 for four, Trott scoring 21 with a six and one four. Also making a contribution to the total was Garnell Hollis on 21 with four fours.Social Club were forced to struggle early when openers Damon Robinson and Charlie Marshall Jr. put on just 12, young Marshall being the first victim. Two more wickets fell as they moved to 54 before Marshall senior and the skipper took it to 93. After another wicket loss at 122 Social were unable to offer any further resistance and 10 runs later it was all over.
