Hollis eager to prove his worth
Dennico Hollis will look to show his true potential to Bermuda coach David Moore in the upcoming ICC Americas T20 qualifiers after Stephen Outerbridge pulled out of the team due to work commitments.Outerbridge was scheduled to make his return to the national team after coming back from a recent knee injury that kept him out of the country’s ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament in April. The Bailey’s Bay skipper has been replaced by club team-mate Hollis who was on the cusp of making the team before being named as a reserve. With the opportunity now at his feet, the youngster said he was chomping at the bit to represent his country again after three years on the outside looking in.“It’s an honour to be selected to go to the tournament with the team, even though I wasn’t first choice and I will be looking to make the most of this opportunity,” said Hollis.“It’s been roughly three years since I was last in the side and this moment has been something I’ve been looking forward to for a while now.“I’ve worked hard and it seems the hard work has paid off.“Given this chance to fill in for a good player in Stephen will allow me to show my worth . . . this is my chance to show the Island and the selectors that I’m worthy of a place in the team.”Hollis has been an integral part of Bay’s side in recent years and has been on the verge of both the international squad as well as Cup Match sides. He has been tipped to be included in the St. George’s team for the two-day spectacle after impressing early on in the season as well as in national team trial matches. Not one to let the hype go to his head, Hollis said he would continue with his hard work and dedication which has earned him a return to the international arena.“I’ve had a good season so far, and even though people are saying I could be selected for the Cup Match side this year I’m not letting that get to my head,” he said.“There is is still a lot of work that needs to be done and I’m working on continuing with the hard work that has got me to this point.“I’m going to let my performances talk for me because a lot of hype always surrounds the biggest game on the cricket calendar and I’ve had people say before I can be a potential colt, but I want to make it a reality and that comes with hard work.“I’m not letting that get to me, I will take things one step at a time and the first thing is the tour.”Moore said Hollis deserved his call-up: “I’m very pleased for Dennico who has worked hard to earn his position on the squad.”
