Town take on new coaches in build-up to next season
Dandy Town have appointed Roger Leverock as Jomar Wilkinson’s new assistant coach for the upcoming Premier Division season.Leverock coached the St. John’s Field club during the 1990s and is also an ex-Bermuda national team goalkeeper. The 2009-10 Premier Division champions have also hired former player Troy Harvey as their new youth director, who will be charged with overseeing the club’s successful development programme.A Hornets spokesman said: “Dandy Town youth committee recognised that there were some things which needed to be done better and after numerous discussions we realised what needed to be improved and set about finding someone who could assist us in filling these voids.“As a result we hired Troy Harvey as youth director. His biggest challenge is going to be bringing about change in an already very successful programme. There were areas, which were highlighted by the youth committee, which needed addressing and he is charged with meeting these objectives. We have and always have had a wealth of talent at our club.”In recent years Hornets, the only club to climb from the bottom tier of Bermudian football to the top-flight in successive years, have helped produced several professional players including Khano Smith (New England Revolution), Reggie Lambe (Ipswich Town) and Nahki Wells (Carlisle United).Another Town youngster, Dale Eve, signed Academy terms with Stoke City earlier this week.“It has always been said that experience is the best teacher and this experience has instilled in us the importance of youth,” added the Hornets’ spokesman. “As a result, we have and always will give our youth the special attention which they deserve.“This is evident as four of the five Bermudian players in major professional football are graduates of our programme: Khano Smith, Reggie Thompson Lambe, Nakhi Wells and most recently Dale Eve.”
