St George's 1-1, Jason Anderson is caught Fray bowled Leverock.Day 2Latest: Somerset, 97 all out & 238 all out lead St George's, 188 all out, by 147. St George's need 148 to win.Kevin Hurdle and Joshua Gilbert put on 53 valuable runs in an impressive final wicket stand as Somerset were bowled out for 238 this afternoon. The challengers crawled their way to a defendable total, thanks to Kamau Leverock's 43, the efforts of Hurdle and Gilbert, and some unimaginative bowling by St George's.The home team allowed their rivals to score far more runs than they should have done, and it is only because of a terrific bowling performance from Stefan Kelly, who tool six wickets for 73 runs from 24 overs, that the holders are still in with a chance of winning.Somerset though shouldn't be counted out either, especially on a wicket that is giving batsmen no end of difficulties. On the back of a tactical mistake last night, St George's committed another one this morning by not using Damali Bell.In the absence of the injured Justin Pitcher, Bell was the only fast bowler alongside Stefan Kelly in the holders' side.St George's though decided that his less than impressive five over spell on the first morning meant he wasn't worth using.Instead they relied on Kelly, their two spinners, Rodney Trott and Delyone Borden, and the part-time medium pace of Oronde Bascome. While Bascome claimed the invaluable wicket of Janeiro Tucker, it was a good ball in an otherwise ordinary spell during which St George's failed to really place Somerset under any pressure. As a consequence, Somerset have compiled a total that might cause their opponents a few problems.Day 1:St George's may still be in the driving seat but a poor final hour at Wellington Oval this evening, where they failed to seize the initiative, means this year's Cup Match is far from over.A first innings lead of 91 and an hour with the new ball was the cue for St George's to pile the pressure on Somerset..That approach should only have intensified when Stefan Kelly bowled opener Dion Stovell and reduced the challengers to five for one. However, St George's skipper Oronde Bascome then took his foot off the gas, gave Justin Pitcher, who took five wickets in the first innings, a rest, didn't use Damali Bell at all, and watched as Terryn Fray and Stephen Outerbridge made it safely to the close of play against spinners Rodney Trott and Delyone Borden. It is a tactical mistake that may yet cost Bascome dear, especially as Fray, unbeaten on 31, now looks to have some semblance of confidence in his batting. With the Wellington Oval pitch sure to get worse tomorrow even a small lead of 100 or more could prove challenging for the holders, who showed today that they aren't beyond batting collapses of their own.Somerset are still the underdogs though, and that's because they only did one thing right this morning, and that was win the toss, after that it all went downhill.Justin Pitcher took five wickets, and Damali Bell marked his debut with one as well, and the challengers collapsed to a miserable 97 all out before lunch.Of the ten wickets that fell this morning, only three batsmen can claim to have been undone by good deliveries. All were sent down by Stefan Kelly, who took four wickets, trapping Deunte Darrell leg before with a vicious inswinging yorker, bowling Jekon Edness with one that moved late off the seam, and he ended the innings by bowling Kevin Hurdle.Hurdle was unlucky to get a short-pitched ball that kept low, and the only comfort for Somerset is that the wicket will only deteriorate further. From the moment Dion Stovell handed Bell his first Cup Match wicket Somerset seemed intent on self destructing. Stovell slashed at a ball outside off, got a top edge and was caught by Oronde Bascome running back from the slips.Stephen Outerbridge followed soon after, becoming Pitcher's first victim, caught at wide third man by Bell after trying to hook a short ball that held up on the pitch.Stovell's opening partner Terryn Fray was next to go. A ball after being dropped by Pitcher off his own bowling, Fray wafted at one outside off stump that he could have left alone and was caught behind.St George's celebrated each wicket that fell as if they had won Cup Match, but none was celebrated louder, nor carried more significance that the celebration that accompanied the departure of Janeiro Tucker. The Somerset veteran came into the game just 128 runs from becoming the greatest run scorer in the history of the Classic, but he only managed to chip away 11 from that total before a fullish ball from Pitcher found its way to Rodney Trott at gully.Somerset were 45 for four at that stage, and if the top order had proved unreliable, the rest were little better. Kamau Leverock and Malachi Jones both got ducks trying to hit the ball out of the ground, while Jacobi Robinson was bowled by a straight one from Kelly in much the same manner as the ball that dismissed Hurdle.Tailenders Joshua Gilbert and Kevin Hurdle put on 15 for the final wicket, but by that time any thoughts of a competitive total had long since past. Hurdle was the last man out just before lunch, and at that stage St George's would have been dreaming of inflicting a crushing defeat on their rivals.A half century from Jason Anderson, who guided his side to 107 for two after Hurdle had picked up the wickets of Bascome and Fiqre Crockwell, would have done little to dissuade them of the notion that the Cup was theirs to lose.Hurdle though returned to take three quick wickets, and St George's quickly found themselves 116 for five.Lionel Cann (38) and Delyone Borden (17) steadied the ship somewhat, putting on 49 for the sixth wicket, before Janeiro Tucker bowled Cann and started a collapse that saw St George's lose their last four wickets for just one run.Tucker finished with figures of four wickets for seven runs, and the difficulty that the holders found themselves in only emphasised the poor nature of the wicket. In all 21 wickets fell today, with the teams scoring a combined total of 324 runs. The wicket is only likely to get harder to play on tomorrow, and if Somerset have a good first hour the match could yet swing in their direction.St George's: Oronde Bascome (capt), J Anderson, D Bell, D Borden, L Cann, F Crockwell, A Douglas Jnr, S Kelly, J Pitcher, O Pitcher, R Trott.
