Stovell: We’re not even thinking about relegation

Southampton Rangers skipper Dion Stovell isn’t ready to accept his side’s fate in this year’s Premier Division relegation battle and is eyeing key wins over fellow strugglers in the run in to climb to safety.Rangers are currently holding down the third and final spot for the drop, and are five points behind Devonshire Rec. in the race for survival. With room for error minimal as the season draws to a close, Stovell is confident that his troops will get down to business in the run in to the end of the season.“We are ok, we aren’t panicking and just need to get a few wins to put pressure on those close to us,” said Stovell.“Looking at the table, we are only five or six points behind Devonshire so relegation isn’t even a thought at this moment, we just need to get on with the task at hand and do our part to get ourselves back on track.”The side have had a poor season to date, losing their first three games, including back-to-back losses to St David’s to open the season before reeling off two wins.Having played one more game than their rivals doesn’t help either, and their draw against Bailey’s Bay on Sunday, the first tie of the season, will have left them thinking of what might have been as they dropped further behind. One bright spot for the reigning champions is the fact that they have to play fellow strugglers PHC, who are below them in the table, twice before the season is out and Devonshire at home.Noting that his side can produce the goods on the day, Stovell remains upbeat about beating the drop.“We still have to play PHC twice and Devonshire Rec. again so if we can get those wins we should be ok, but certainly no one is hitting the panic button just yet,” he said.“With the team we have we are capable of beating anyone on the day, it is just a matter of us playing our game, there have been some decisions that have gone against us but we have to put all that behind us and focus on what’s ahead.”
