Troubled week for Cuts player Darrell

Willow Cuts player Mackie Darrell has endured a week to forget after being charged with a Level IV offence by Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) and given news of a family emergency involving his son.Darrell could face a lengthy ban after it was alleged he threatened umpires Roger Dill and Oscar Andrade during last Sunday’s Premier Division match between Cuts and Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval. However, his hearing has been delayed by the BCB after the governing body learned Darrell’s son had been flown out of the Island with a serious health condition. The chairman of the BCB Disciplinary Committee granted Darrell’s request to defer his hearing until next Wednesday due to “exceptional family circumstances”.Darrell played for Young Men’s Social Club last year before the team folded and was transferred to PHC where he played for the remainder of the season. He joined Cuts before the start of this season.Under the BCB Code of Conduct, Level IV offences can lead to a ban for “player or official concerned from all cricket for a specific time period that is sufficient to include a minimum of ten BCB scheduled club 50-over or T20 matches up to a life ban and/or such other penalty which in the opinion of the Disciplinary Committee is appropriate.”This includes a repeat of “any Level III offence within 12 months of such offence, threat of assault on an umpire or referee, physical assault of another player, umpire, referee, official or spectator, any act of violence on the field of play, using any language or gesture that seriously offends, insults, humiliates, intimidates, threatens, disparages or vilifies another person on the basis of that person’s race, religion, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin.”Yesterday both the BCB and Willow Cuts declined to comment any further on the alleged incident.Meanwhile, fellow Cuts player Ricardo Brangman jr pleaded guilty to a Level I offence of using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting. He was reprimanded by the BCB.Dennis Williams of Devonshire Rec was also reprimanded after he pleaded guilty to a Level I breach of conduct of bringing the game into disrepute.
