Jones sends St David's tumbling out of cup

Willow Cuts, 185 all out, beat St David’s, 172 all out, by 13 runsMalachi Jones grabbed five wickets as Willow Cuts put their name in the semi-final draw with this 13-run win over St David’s at Somerset Cricket Club.Winning the toss and sending the hosts into bat, St David’s would have felt they had the upper hand after bowling their rivals out for a manageable 185 runs in 43.5 overs.A solid knock at the top of the order by Chris Douglas (47) along with a 73 run seventh-wicket partnership between Dwight Basden (29) and George O’Brien (39) helped get Cuts to their total.Islanders skipper Fiqre Crockwell claimed two wickets for six runs to top the bowling stats.But it was then Jones who took centre stage.The seamer’s haul included the wickets Sammy Robinson (3), Loren Marshall (29) and the dangerous Rudell Pitcher (1).Crockwell tried to keep his side in the match with a half-century but a lower order collapse proved costly for the visitors.Flatts 137 all out, 32.5 overs lost to Somerset CC, 138 for five, 37.1 overs.A fine all-round performance by Ricky Hoyte enabled the West Enders to cruise to a comfortable five-wicket victory in this Knockout match at Lord’s yesterday.Hoyte first helped to limit Flatts to a low score with an impressive bowling spell which saw him haul three wickets for 21 runs off six overs with a maiden and then he returned and led his team to victory with the game’s highest score of 58, taking Somerset to their winning target in 37.1 overs.Flatts struggled for runs early after losing their first wicket at 11 but they were able to reach the three-figure mark thanks to fine knocks by Rahji Edness with 32, Keyinun Smith on 29, Ronald Gibbons 25 and Kijuan Franks 16. Franks and Gibbons put on 45 for the sixth wicket, taking the score from five for 53 to 98.Helping Hoyte to restrict the scoring was Jacobi Robinson with three wickets for 35 runs off 6.5 overs and a maiden while Marcus Johnson took two for 33 off six overs.Somerset made a solid reply despite losing their first wicket on 11, but at 40 for two they seemed to be well on their way with Hoyte batting comfortably against the modest bowling attack, reaching their winning target off 37.1 overs.Also among the runs for Somerset were Jordan Desilva undefeated on 53 and Jekon Edness on 18.Best of the Flatts bowlers were Kijuan Franks who had one wicket for five runs off three overs and a maiden while Nelson Bascome Jr. also claimed a wicket at a cost of 25 runs off nine overs with a maiden.Warwick Workmen’s, 166 all out, beat Western Stars, 155 all out, by 11 runsDaniel Caines proved to be useful with both bat and ball as he spearheaded Warwick’s victory over Western Stars by 11 runs at St John’s Field.Top scoring with 53, Caines’ innings was the chief reason Warwick reached their total of 166 in 38.2 overs, with Dwayne Adams contributing 24 to the cause.Youngster Seth Campbell led the Stars attack with three wickets, while Brian Hall and Ray Butterfield both grabbed two wickets for their side.In reply, Stars were bowled out in 30.4 overs, with only McLaren Lowe really settling in with his knock of 53.Promising all-rounder Butterfield added 22, while Gary Williams grabbed four wickets from a fine spell of bowling.Shonari Boyles-Simons and Caines both got two wickets apiece to help see their side through to the last four.Bailey’s Bay, 94 for five, beat Cleveland County, 91 all out, by five wicketsBailey’s Bay kept their unbeaten run to start the season intact with a five-wicket win over Cleveland County at Sea Breeze Oval.With the sides sharing the same ground, it was the tenants who were bowled all out for 91, with only Makai Young (38) and Treadwell Gibbons jr (14) troubling the scorecard.Ryan Steede grabbed four wickets, while David Beddard assisted with three to do the damage for the landlords.In reply, Bailey’s Bay scored 94 for five, with Dennico Hollis top scoring with 39 and he was ably supported by Terryn Fray (21) at the top of the order.Lavar Talbot was the pick of the County bowlers as he snatched three wickets in the loss.
