Willow Cuts sever ties with banned player Toronto Darrell
Western Counties champions Willow Cuts have condemned the “unsportsmanlike conduct” of banned club cricketer Toronto Darrell.Darrell is currently serving a six-year Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) ban for threatening an umpire during two separate incidents this season. He was initially banned for a year after being found guilty of threatening an umpire during a May 27 match between Cuts and Southampton Rangers which is a Level Four offence.Darrell then received a harsher five-year ban after being found guilty of threatening an umpire as a spectator at a July 8 match involving Cuts and St David's at Lords which was also deemed to be a Level Four offence. He isn't eligible to resume his cricket career until July 13, 2018.In a letter addressed to Darrell and copied to BCB CEO Neil Speight, Cuts' management condemned the cricketer's bad behaviour and urged him to “discontinue any and all involvement with the club”.The full letter read: “Dear Mr. Darrell,“This letter is to inform you of the decision made by the Willow Cuts Cricket Club Executives regarding your unsportsmanlike conduct over the past few months. Please be advised that you are asked to discontinue any and all involvement with the club and/or club activities, effective immediately.“Your actions have not only resulted in penalties for yourself but also for the club as we have been threatened with point deduction by the Bermuda Cricket Board. The team has worked very hard and should not have to lose its position because of the actions of one player.“Please find attached documentation of your offences and the relevant disciplinary hearing reports.“We hope that you will respect the club's decision and we wish you well in your future cricketing endeavours.”Darrell, who is the uncle of Cuts and Somerset Cup Match batsman Deunte Darrell, expressed remorse for his actions but has indicated he has no intentions of playing cricket again.Star player Deunte is also currently serving a one-year BCB ban for bringing the game into disrepute and won't be eligible to resume his career until September of this year.
