Tucker leads Somerset in Old Boys charity game

John Tucker will captain Somerset Old Boys against Harris Bay in this year’s charity cricket match at Somerset Cricket Club

Former star all-rounder John Tucker will lead cup holders Somerset into battle in next month’s annual Harris Bay and Somerset Old Boys Old Boys charity cricket match at Somerset Cricket Club.Tucker has replaced Kevin Saunders as Somerset Old Boys captain and comes highly qualified for the job having guided Somerset to Cup Match glory in Somerset in 1982.He also won countless league and cup honours as a player with Southampton Rangers during his heyday.Saunders is unavailable for this year’s match through personal commitments.The cup holders have named a star-studded team this year that includes at least six former Somerset Cup Match players.Challengers Harris Bay will be led by Randall Woolridge.Harris Bay’s team only includes one former Cup Match player in ex- St George’s star all-rounder Noel Gibbons.The 61st annual Harris Bay and Somerset Old Boys charity match will take place on Thursday, September 6 with the first ball to be bowled at 11 am.A church service to be attended by both teams will be held Sunday, September 2 at Marsden Methodist Church, beginning at 11am.This year’s recipient of part proceeds from the match are the Bermuda Heart Foundation.Somerset Old Boys: John Tucker (capt), Perry Maybury, Jeff Richardson, Anthony Bailey, Anthony Burchall, Marc Bean, Denzill Dill, Gladstone Robinson, Benard Brangman, Conrad Lister, Vance Gilbert, John Bremar, Wayne Ball, Jerry-Lynn Simons, Mark Trott, Michael Corday.Harris Bay: Randall Woolridge (capt), Herdon Smith, Eugene Simmons, Albert Jenkins, Noel Gibbons, Dennis Wainwright Jr, John Richardson, Jerry Jones, Brendan Woolridge, Kevin Lapsley, Kurt Wade, Millet Bean, William Weldon, Colin (Bo) Smith, Andre Smith, Terry Smith.
