Bay recall veteran Romaine for Counties clash

Bailey's Bay's Irving Romaine

Bailey's Bay have made two changes to their team for tomorrow's Eastern Counties final against Cleveland, recalling veteran batsman Irving Romaine and including colt Caleb Jean Pierre.Romaine, who missed the first two matches of the series through suspension and then unavailability, comes in to replace Tre Govia as the holders strengthen their batting while Jean Pierre, a left-arm medium pacer who hails from St. Lucia, is chosen to replace Lateef Trott who is off the Island.“Lateef has gone on vacation and Caleb comes into the team as the third seam bowler,” explained Romaine. “He has put in he hard work in training, he's very friendly with the guys and is a good all-round team member. He is reaping the rewards, he got to play in the last game against Willow Cuts and hopefully on Saturday he does well.”Romaine, one of the team's most senior players, is looking forward to playing in the final.“Over the last year after my suspension I have taken up other roles with coaching and doing the junior programme, so I have found success in other ways by watching the juniors come through and playing,” said the former Bermuda captain who scored 71 against Cuts last weekend.“Things are looking real good, hopefully we'll win it. Our main thing is to retain it but we would like to win, that's what we are shooting for. We've had a great season and it would be nice to top off the season with a victory in the Eastern Counties.“We expect Cleveland to come hard and with the guys they are expected to bring in they should have a very good team and it should be a good game. In two league games against them this season they did extremely well, scoring a lot of runs against us. You always have one real tough game during the series, Flatts had a good one, St. David's didn't but we're expecting Cleveland to come real, real hard.”Bay are coming off one of their most successful seasons in many years, winning the Logic Premier League, Belco Cup and Lindo's T20. They wrapped up the league last weekend against Willow Cuts with an exciting top-of-the-table clash at Somerset as scores of Bay fans swarmed the pitch afterwards to celebrate with the team. They will have to wait a few more days before being presented with the league trophy but there is no denying the team is deserving of the title, having gone through the league campaign undefeated.“I could have been playing earlier but the team was doing so well with me out on suspension I didn't feel I should come in and break up a winning team,” said Romaine. “I just sat out and waited my turn. We played several youngsters throughout the season.“The members have supported us tremendously and it showed at Somerset where (winning the league after 18 years) brought out people like Noel Gibbons' mother. People have been waiting years for this. It is good for the community. It was a good game, played in good spirits.”Saturday's team: Stephen Outerbridge (capt), Rodney Trott, Irving Romaine, Terryn Fray, Sinclair Smith, Kyle Hodsoll, Cal Dill, Tre Manders, Burton Outerbridge, Dennico Hollis, Caleb Jean Pierre (colt.)
