Masters retain Soup Zuill Memorial title
Bermuda Masters retained their title after handing Jamaican Association a 15-run loss in last weekend’s Warrington Soup Zuill Memorial cricket match at Lords.The cup holders piled up 185 for five in their allotted 30 overs and then restricted their rivals to 170 for seven.Allen Richardson stroked a game-high 81 for Bermuda Masters who elected to bat after skipper Ricky Brangman won the toss. Derek Wright (39) and Herbie Bascome (33) weighed in with useful knocks to place their team in a position of strength.Traddie Simpson (one for 21), Alex Dore (one for 21) and Junior Lindo (one for 23) were the pick of the Jamaican Association bowling.Simpson and Dore also featured prominently in the challenger’s run chase that ultimately came up short, scoring 31 and 29 respectively while Keniek Wallen added 27.Bascome claimed 3 for 19 with his medium seam to lead Bermuda Masters’ bowling while fellow seamer Neil Anglin took two for 28.Bermuda Masters are due to depart for a two -week tour of Sri Lanka next week where they will play four matches and attend ICC World T20 knockout matches.The local team, who are without the services of several key players for the tour, will face Bloomfield CC in their opening game on September 29.
