Brangman named coach of Rangers
Ricky Brangman has been appointed as coach of Premier cricket side Southampton Rangers, The Royal Gazette can reveal.The former Rangers player and captain has accepted the terms of an agreement to coach the highly decorated club for the next two years.Rangers went trophyless last season for the first time in recent memory, a situation new coach Brangman will undoubtedly look to rectify during the upcoming 2013 campaign.Brangman won multiple league and cup honours during a previous playing stint with Rangers. He also won multiple cup honours with the South Shore club during a stint as captain.The former batsman resigned as player-coach of Devonshire early last season. Devonshire were eventually relegated from the Premier Divison at the end of the 2012 campaign.Brangman, 53, cited personal reasons for his decision to resign.Incidentally, his stint as Devonshire’s coach ended in a humbling 318-run loss to Rangers at Southampton Oval.It remains unclear whether Brangman intends to play at his new club next season.Meanwhile, Rangers have acquired several new players during the off season and among the new faces at the club are Brangman’s sons Derrick and Lamont and nephew Dean Stephens who have all joined from Devonshire. Brothers Derrick and Lamont have previously represented the club in the Western Counties as a guest player and along with cousin Stephens are products of the club’s youth programme.PHC seam bowler Kevin Tucker has also joined Rangers for the upcoming season while Shannon Raynor has rejoined the club following a brief spell back with St David’s.
