Bermuda look to bounce back against Cayman

Bermuda will look to get back to winning ways when they face Cayman Islands in the first match of a double header at Brian Piccolo Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida today. The Islanders slumped to a first defeat against ICC Americas Division 1 T20 hosts USA in their previous outing at Central Broward Regional Park on Wednesday.Bermuda beat the Caymans by 46 runs the last time the two sides met and will undoubtedly look to repeat the dose to remain firmly on course for qualification to November’s ICC World T20 global qualifiers in Dubai. The eventual top two countries in Florida will progress to the next stage of the competition in Dubai. The Caymans will enter this morning’s clash with Bermuda fresh off a humbling nine-wicket mauling at the hands of Bahamas yesterday.Following today’s match with the Caymans Bermuda will be out to avenge their first round loss to USA at the same venue.Yesterday was designated as a rest day for team Bermuda. However squad members underwent a light practise session and recuperation to help them recover for the second half of the tournament which will see them play their remaining four matches inside of three days barring inclement weather.Bermuda boasts a record of three wins and one loss at the halfway stage of the double round robin tournament.“I am fairly pleased with our progress to date although we certainly will not take any teams for granted in the remainder of the tournament,” stated interim national coach Arnold Manders. “Although we have some areas that we continue to work on, the squad is gelling together well and working hard on their respective roles. Our objective remains the same to be in the top 2 at the end of the tournament to qualify for the global World T20 qualifier in November.”Elder statesman Janeiro Tucker has been a major source of inspiration for his teammates so far on tour. The Southampton Rangers all rounder has amassed 177 runs with a high score of 65 not out, claimed seven wickets at an average of 11.29 with his medium seamers and held five catches to place himself in the thick of contention for tournament MVP accolades. Tucker has only been dismissed once in four trips to the crease and already earned two man of the match awards.Tucker’s Rangers teammate Dion Stovell (147) and former Bermuda skipper David Hemp (114) also have more than one hundred runs under their belts while all rounder Malachi Jones has taken a team-high eight wickets at an average of 7.13.Following today’s double header Bermuda will play Bahamas and Suriname in their final two fixtures on the weekend.
