Jones propels Somerset to victory

Shaquille Jones grabbed three wickets and struck a half-century as Somerset Cricket Club beat Western Stars by seven wickets at St John’s Field yesterday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Stars got a 68-run second wicket partnership from opener Temiko Wilson (52) and Nyon Steede (37) before wickets tumbled at regular intervals.

Wilson’s half-century comprised of six fours.

Jones claimed three wickets for 20 runs, while Jordan Desilva also took three wickets for 31 runs.

In reply, the visitors reached their target in 34.2 overs, with Jones spearheading their charge to victory with a knock of 57.

Jones struck three fours and three sixes in his time at the crease, while fellow youngster Joshua Gilbert contributed with 48 that included four fours.

Nacori Smith, Rohan Davis and Brian Hall all claimed one wicket apiece in the loss.

Rangers’ Derrick Brangman made 48 not that included two fours and two sixes, while Gerald Simons contributed with three fours and a six in his knock of 46.

Kamau Leverock added 37 to help the visitors post their total.

Charles Trott and Charles Symonds claimed two wickets for 38 and 45 runs respectively.

In reply, former PHC player Kevin Tucker snatched four wickets for 25 runs to squash any thoughts of an upset.

Alex Dore took two wickets for ten runs, while Janeiro Tucker took two for 35.

Delray Rawlins top-scored with 42 in the loss for PHC, with Symonds made 21.
