Wilson inspires Western Stars to Central Counties win

Western Stars players celebrate another wicket against Devonshire Rec in the Central Counties match at Devonshire Rec at the weekend.

Devonshire 141Western Stars 147-6Temiko Wilson stroked 59 not out as Western Stars held on to their Central Counties crown with a four wicket win over Devonshire at Devonshire Rec on Saturday.In a match that was reduced to 42 overs per team after a morning downpour delayed the start until 12.30pm, Devonshire had 15-year-old Ajai Daniels to thank for passing the 100 mark after the Stars bowlers restricted them to 58-5 before Daniels, batting at number six, offered some resistance with a knock of 43 which contained four fours and a six.Daniels dominated a stand of 33 with Rudy Smith (3) for the sixth wicket in taking the score to 91, before the home team slumped again to 120-9 before adding 21 for the last wicket.There were some 45 extras in the Rec innings while opener Dion Ball (12) and Keishun Smith (10) were the only other batsmen in double figures.The wickets were shared around for Stars as Iejah Caines took two for 17, Clay Darrell two for 25 and Philip Thomas two for 30.After losing Dano Outerbridge when the score was eight, a second wicket stand of 47 between Temiko Wilson and Ryan Tyrell (27) laid the foundation for Stars’ run chase.Tyrell hit six fours in his knock while Clay Darrell contributed a useful 23 from four fours and a six in the middle order. Wilson batted throughout the innings, hitting seven fours and four sixes before Stars reached their target in 26.2 overs.Keishun Smith took two for 36 and Bremar two for six for Rec.
