Somerset grab Colts Cup Match victory
St George's 135
Somerset snatched victory off the second-last ball of the match to wrestle the Colts Cup Match trophy from St George's in dramatic fashion at Wellington Oval on Sunday.
St George's were holding on after starting the final 20 overs at 69 for seven. But with two balls remaining the challengers snatched the win when Alex Dore bowled Keishon Robinson to spark celebrations as Somerset achieved what the Cup Match team failed to do two days earlier.
St George's were never in the run chase as Somerset, who lost a close match last year in Somerset, posted a daunting 211 with Brian Hall leading the way with 43.
Kwasi James supported with 35, Jahnoi Bean 29 and Koshun Durrant 24.
Delray Rawlins claimed three for 44 off 11 overs and San'j Dill three for 49 off 10 overs.
The hosts were in early trouble at 41 for five in reply before slumping further to 73 for seven inside the final 20 overs as they tried to put up the shutters and hold on for a draw.
However, Somerset remained determined and snatched a dramatic victory at 7.55pm by 76 runs despite Rawlins' fighting 55.
William White scored 17 and Osagi Bascome 14.
Justin Corday, like Rawlins a reserve in Cup Match, had outstanding figures of six for 55 off 17 overs with four maidens while Kamal Easton took two for 10 from seven overs with four maidens.
Unlike last year, the match was played after Cup Match which left St George's unable to call on Zeko Burgess, Christian Burgess and Onias Bascome, who all made their debuts in Cup Match and are no longer eligible to play in the colts match.
Somerset, on the other hand, had a stronger team with the likes of captain Shaquille Jones, Justin Corday, Justin Donawa, Kamal Easton, Christian Gibbons and Alex Dore in their team.
