Americas Under-19s beaten by Jamaica

Jamaica 203ICC Americas 130Jamaica claimed the Regional Under-19 tournament title with a 73-run win over ICC Americas today.Included in the side were Bermuda’s Tre Manders, Kamau Leverock, Christian Burgess, and Delray Rawlins.Chasing 203 for victory, the Americas side relied on the middle order to repair the damage after the early order put the side in deep trouble at three for two.Manders, batting at number four, went about mending the innings with a knock of 22.He was fortunate to have lasted as long as he did after edging his second delivery through the slip cordon for four. The Somerset Cup Match batsman also survived an lbw appeal but continued on resolutely, hitting two more boundaries in his innings. He was joined by Cup Match team-mate Leverock with the score on 34 for three, but the pair couldn’t build a partnership with Manders eventually falling with the score at 43.St George’s Cup Match player Burgess joined Leverock at the crease with the score on 46 for five but he, as the top order batsmen before him, wouldn’t last long.He stroked a four in his brief knock of six, leaving the side in deep trouble at 55 for six.Wickets would continue to fall with batsmen preferring the lofty drives rather then picking up singles and rotating the strike.Leverock would be a mainstay at the crease, moving the score along in comfortable fashion. He would eventually be out on 34 and the score on 98 for eight. His innings consisted of three fours and a lofty drive over the long-on boundary for six.The Island’s fourth player, Delray Rawlins, strolled to the crease at number nine and scored 19 before the side were eventually bowled out for 130.Earlier in the day, the Americas side had Jamaica in a spot of bother at 51 for six but some late order batting pushed the eventual champions to a defendable total. The match ends the competition for both sides, with the Americas squad having won one match, losing four. There was also a rain-out.Meanwhile, the best of the Under-17 cricket talent will be on display when the BF&M All-Star game takes place on Friday at Somerset Cricket Club in a 40-over game, starting at 12.30.Included in the East team are all of the Bermuda players who have been playing in the Americas tournament — Rawlins, Manders, Leverock and Burgess.
