Fine-Leg Byes looking for another title

Newly-crowned Evening Cricket League Premier Division champions Fine Leg Byes have a score to settle when they take on The Associates in the league’s second knockout semi-final at Shelly Bay tonight.Fine Leg Byes, who also won the league last season, were narrowly beaten by The Associates in the 2012 final.The Associates, who squeezed into this season’s top four during the last week of league play, will be underdogs to repeat last season’s knockout success.The winners will play either league runners-up West XI or third-placed Tuff Dogs, who met in last night’s first semi-final, in the final set for Shelly Bay on September 21.Second Division league winners PWC Byes, who won last season’s knockout final by beating league champions Renegades, will face fourth-placed De Wicketest on Friday night after runners-up Marine & Ports take on third-placed Deloitte the previous evening.While PWC Byes will play in the top flight next season relegated High Flyaz will drop back to the Second Division.Organiser Stephen West says Young Men’s Social Club, who pulled out of the Second Division mid-season this year, will not be allowed back into the league next season.“A replacement team has already been lined up,” added West, although he did not elaborate.Each division boasts eight teams using a Twenty20 format.
