Bermuda’s win a team effort - Cann

Lionel Cann played an integral role in Bermuda's 18-run win over Scotland at the ICC World Twenty20 2014 Qualifying tournament in Dubai today

Bermuda’s inspiring win over Scotland in their opening ICC World Twenty20 2014 qualifying Group B match was a “total team effort”, according to senior player Lionel Cann.

The veteran batsman said Bermuda were on top of their game in all departments, with every player pulling their own weight, and thoroughly deserved to come out on top.

“We batted, bowled and fielded as a team,” Cann told The Royal Gazette.

“Everyone felt we can do something special and all through the game every person did something great.”

Cann, who stroked a fluent 27 from 25 balls batting at number four, said the positive result was further testament that Bermuda had the potential to fulfil their primary objective in the Middle East.

“One reporter interviewed me after the game and he said ‘it looks like Bermuda are taking a turn for the better and look a better unit and professional’,” he added. “He was at the World Cup (2007) and interviewed me on Sachin (India legend Sachin Tendulkar). It was total professionalism, gone are the bad habits.

“The win represents hard work, commitment, belief and togetherness and it builds more belief for the younger members of the team. Having been there before I can see they are grasping their opportunities.

“The mood all through the game was excitement. The dressing room was buzzing after the match but that was short-lived because we had ice baths and a pool session.”
