Willow Cuts run riot against Bridge
White Hill Field (Willow Cuts won toss): Willow Cuts beat Somerset Bridge by 288 runs
Willow Cuts smashed the Somerset Bridge bowlers into submission on Saturday, scoring 441 for four off their allotted 50 overs as Chris Douglas and Malachi Jones, their captain, both scored centuries before retiring at White Hill Field.
Douglas, opening with Chris Foggo (23), scored 116 on his return to the club after a season at Cleveland, while Jones kept the runs flowing with his knock of 105 at number four. Sheroy Fubler, batting at number three, hit 75 while Deunte Darrell reached 50 not out late in the innings.
Somerset Bridge were never going to threaten the Cuts total, as they replied with 153 in 32.5 overs, captain Noel Woods leading the way with 33 not out. Open Ryan Sheppard scored 26 and Donnie Charles 25. Jones took three for six in 2.5 overs while Kamal Bashir and Kavon Fubler, who shared the new ball, both took two wickets, Bashir two for 44 off eight overs and Fubler two for 35 from ten overs.
Sea Breeze Oval (Bay won toss): Bailey’s Bay beat Somerset by 127 runs
Rodney Trott and Stephen Outerbridge both scored half-centuries as Bailey’s Bay easily beat Somerset.
The pair, batting at four and five, came together after David Lovell, Coleridge Durham and Sinclair Smith all went cheaply. Trott was high man with 75 while his captain added 53. Christion Gibbons marked his Somerset debut with three for 52 from 10 overs.
Somerset lacked any substantial contributions in their batting as Jekon Edness, their captain, led the way with 64 and Jahkai Benjamin 21. Kyle Hodsoll had figures of three for 20 from 9.4 overs while Burton Outerbridge took two for 20 and Rodney Trott two for 32.
St John’s Field (Western Stars won toss): Western Stars beat St George’s by 227 runs
Western Stars thrashed St George’s in this lopsided Belco Cup first round encounter.
Stars rattled up an colossal total with Temiko Wilson, the wicketkeeper, top scoring with 85 and Nyon Steede, the captain, adding 76. Ryan Tyrell and Seion Darrell also thumped half centuries, stroking 50 and 54 respectively as Stars found runs easy to come by.
Charlie Marshall Sr, the St George’s chairman of selectors, was the pick of the East Enders’ bowling with two for 27 while Machai Young took two for 60.
Wilbur Burt, the former Stars seamer, bore the brunt of the punishment, going wicketless for 82 runs in his allotted overs.
In reply, St George’s came up well short of their target with Troy Hall, who scored 30, Herbie Bascome, who added 28, and J Denbroke, who chipped in with 14, the only bats in double figures.
St George’s first five wickets tumbled for 33 runs and they never recovered before the innings ended in the 28th over.
Brian Hall, the off break bowler, led Stars’ attack with four for 23 while Jason Lowe and C Darrell claimed three for 43 and three for 23.
Southampton Oval (Devonshire won toss): Cleveland beat Devonshire by five wickets
Jason Anderson, the wicketkeeper, hammered an unbeaten half century and Lavar Talbot, the off spinner, claimed three wickets to guide Cleveland to this convincing victory.
Devonshire’s decision to bat first after winning the toss backfired as they were skittled out for a paltry total in exactly 39 overs.
Lamar Caines led the resistance with 33, Hewvonnie Brown added 20, Dapo Frederick 17 and Sean DeGraff 12.
Second-change bowler Talbot claimed three for 27 to led Cleveland’s attack.
That Devonshire managed to reach triple digits owed much to the 41 runs in extras — that included 25 wides — Cleveland gave away in the field.
In reply, Cleveland raced to victory in 18 overs with Anderson belting an unbeaten 50 from 35 balls that contained four sixes and five fours.
Anderson and Talbot, who finished unbeaten on 11, saw Cleveland safely across the line via and unbroken 40-run, sixth-wicket partnership.
Opener Treadwell Gibbons and number three bat Steven Douglas Jr chipped in with 20 and 34 respectively.
Dennis Williams, the medium pacer, was the pick of the Devonshire bowling with three for 37.
