Young puts Bridge to the sword

Temiko Wilson impressed with the bat for Western Stars

A fine all round display catapulted Western Stars through to the final of the First Division Twenty20 competition.

Stars cruised to comfortable 76 run victory over Somerset Bridge at Wellington Oval on Saturday

The victory was built on the back of an impressive opening stand of 125 between Temiko Wilson and Makai Young.

Stars racked up 162 for five in their 20 overs, and then kept Bridge to 86 for eight as siblings Seth and Swayne Campbell claimed two wickets apiece.

Young was dropped twice on his way to a blistering 64, while Wilson was brutally dismissive of some poor Bridge bowling as he made 57 from 52 balls.

The marathon opening stand was eventually broken when Donnie Charles, the Bridge seamer, had Wilson caught by Kevin Vickers in the covers.

Bridge picked up more wickets as the innings came to an end, but by then the damage was done.

Bridge’s reply got off to a reasonably good start with openers Ezekiel Greenwood and Jermaine Salaam putting on 19 for the first wicket, but they were always behind the required run rate and were 52 for three halfway through their innings.

Donnie, who top scored with 20, tried to make a game of it, but Bridge lost wickets at regular intervals.

Swayne Campbell led the Stars bowling attack with figures of two for nine from four overs with two maidens, while his sibling Seth took two for 14 from his four overs and Brian Hall two for 20.
