BCB begin planning for next World Cup
The Bermuda Cricket Board have laid the groundwork for Bermuda’s 2018 Under-19 World Cup qualifying preparations.
The BCB yesterday announced the players who have been selected to the under-17 squad which will start training and warm-up matches in the lead up to the qualifiers.
Bermuda made their first and only appearance at the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia in 2008, where they failed to advance beyond the group stage.
The island’s only win of the tournament came against Ireland, whom they beat by 20 runs in Kuala Lumpur thanks to a century fifth-wicket partnership between Malachi Jones and Rodney Trott, the team captain. Chris Douglas took five wickets with his off spin.
The training squad of 28 players are required to attend a squad meeting with their parents at the Bermuda College on Monday, April 25 from 6pm to 8pm and have also been asked to confirm their attendance to the BCB either by calling 292-8958 or by e-mail at info@cricket.bm.
The 2018 Under-19 World Cup will be held in New Zealand.
The West Indies were crowned Under-19 world champions for the first time in February in the final in Bangladesh.
