Scotland goes run crazy
Marcus Scotland, the Bermudian youngster currently in Surrey’s youth programme, struck his highest score so far when he scored a massive 174 not out in his team’s match against Cambridgeshire Under-14 County Age Group team on Sunday.
The score followed Scotland’s first century five days earlier against Sussex when he scored 100 not out. It takes his total to 554 runs in 11 innings this season with two 50s and two centuries, all not out.
Scotland opened the innings and batted to the end as Surrey posted 321 for two in their allotted 50 overs. Scotland faced half the deliveries in the innings — 154 balls — in 194 minutes and hit 21 fours and a six.
Cambridgeshire, playing at home at March Town Cricket Club, scored 208 for eight in reply.
Scotland shared in three vital partnerships, adding 44 for the first wicket with Harry Jones while two century stands took Surrey to their match-winning total. Scotland added 112 for the second wicket with Fraser Trimmings, taking the score from 44 to 156 before Trimmings was out for 33.
Alex Lewis then stayed with Scotland for the rest of the innings as they added 118 for the unbroken third wicket with Lewis scoring 55 not out from five fours and two sixes.
Cambridgeshire were led in their run chase by 57 from No 4 batsman Nikhil Corantla. Joe Davies added 42 in the middle order while opener Daniel Karr contributed 33. Dru Shori claimed three for 42 and Owen Fox two for 24, both from ten overs.
