Jordan DeSilva, the Somerset captain, scored a second straight century in his team’s Open League draw with Bailey’s Bay at Sea Breeze Oval on Saturday.

Batting at No 4, DeSilva struck 124 out of the visitors’ 191 runs after being sent in. His boundary-filled innings included seven fours and four sixes with his century arriving of 136 balls in 170 minutes.

DeSilva also added 55 runs with Tai Cariah for the third wicket and another 86 with Isaiah Richardson for the fourth.

Kyle Hodsoll did the heaviest damage for the home side with the ball. The seam bowler claimed six for 31, including the prized scalp of DeSilva, and also sent down three maidens.

The game hung in the balance when stumps were drawn with Bay 153 for seven in reply.

Sinclair Smith was Bay’s top scorer with 42 while the 14-year-old Cariah claimed three for 13 with his seam bowling to cap a fine all-round display.

DeSilva has been in solid early season form with the bat having scored 108 in Somerset’s home draw with Western Stars the previous weekend.

Elsewhere on Saturday, PHC beat Willow Cuts by three wickets at PHC Field.

Lamar Richardson claimed five for 38 as Cuts were dismissed for 146.

PHC then replied with 151 for seven in 43 overs with Kevin Lambe leading the run chase with an innings of 56.

Meanwhile, Somerset were back in action again yesterday against Cup Match rivals St George’s in a match that was abandoned because of heavy rain at Somerset Cricket Club.

St George’s chose to bat and were 95 for two after 19 overs when play was interrupted at 1.57pm upon the dismissal of Jelani Carlington, who was trapped lbw by Isaiah Richardson for 29.

Opener Temiko Wilson was the other St George’s wicket to fall after scoring 17 while opening partner Treadwell Gibbons Jr was unbeaten on 39.

Greg Maybury Jr was the other Somerset bowler claiming a wicket.

Yesterday’s Open League match between Somerset Bridge and Willow Cuts at Southampton Oval was also abandoned because of the torrential downpour.

Bridge were 147 for four after 25 overs when play was halted after being sent in to bat.

Hewvonnie Baker and Shawn Riley got Bridge off to solid start via a 113-run, second-wicket stand before Cuts picked up three quick wickets to disrupt their opponents’ momentum.

Both batsmen scored half centuries as Cuts were put to the sword with opener Baker stroking 52, that included five fours and four sixes, and Riley 50, that contained eight fours and a six.

Jason Smith was on 22 not out when the rain halted proceedings at 2.30pm.

Tariq Brown claimed two for 34 for Cuts.

The match between PHC and Devonshire Recreation Club at PHC Field was also abandoned.
