Bermuda continued their preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Qualifiers with a six-wicket victory against an Argentina XI in Buenos Aires on Tuesday.

With Argentina opting to bat, Bermuda restricted the opposition to just 77 runs in 17.2 overs, with Pedro Arrighi top scoring on18 as one of only three Argentinian batsman to reach double figures.

Captain Delray Rawlins led the bowling attack picking up four wickets and giving up just ten runs from his four overs. Malachi Jones and Zeko Burgess claimed two wickets apiece, with Kamau Leverock and Derrick Brangman picking up one each.

In reply, Bermuda reached their target with the loss of four wickets in 15.5 overs. Jones finished his good outing by top scoring on 19 not out, with Rawlins (16), Tre Manders (14) and Leverock (13) also contributing.

Telling contribution: Malachi Jones top scored for Bermuda on 19 not-out and also claimed two wickets

Bermuda found a breakthrough almost immediately in the match when Brangman had Ramiro Escobar (0) caught by wicketkeeper Sinclair Smith in the second ball of the first over, .

Alejandro Ferguson (11) joined Pedro Baron (15) at the crease and steadied the innings a little until Ferguson was clean bowled by Burgess with the final ball of the second over and the score at 22 for 2.

Baron followed midway through the next over with just another eight runs added to the total, as Burgess claimed his second wicket, before Lautaro Musiani (8) was the fourth wicket to fall when caught by Dominic Sabir off the bowling of Jones.

That left Argentina XI at 44-4 after 8.3 overs and just two more runs had been added to the total before Rawlins claimed his first wicket, dismissing Alan Kirschbaum (5) at the midway point of the innings.

Tomas Rossi (5) was Rawlins’ next victim before the batting side produced a mini-revival with 22 were added in three overs before Perez Rivero Agustin (5) was run out.

That signalled a collapse with Santiago Rossi (0) failing to make a contribution before captain Hernan Fennell (1) and Arrighi (18) fell in the space of three balls.

Bermuda knocked off the required runs for the loss of just four wickets but took 15.5 overs to pass the total, which may leave room for improvement on the batting front.

Openers Leverock and Terryn Fray got off to a steady start when putting 16 runs on the board before the former captain fell at the start of the second over when caught and bowled by Fennell.

Fray (2) followed almost immediately to the bowling of Arrighi after failing to make an impact before Manders and Rawlins got the innings back on track.

The score had reached 45 by the time Rawlins fell five overs later when caught off the bowling of Kirschbaum, with Manders lasting for another three overs and helping to take the score to 62.

Jones made a telling contribution of 19 not out from 27 balls, with Justin Pitcher (4 not out) joining him to get Bermuda over the line with four overs to spare.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday with the Americas, Qualifiers beginning on Saturday, with Bermuda facing Cayman Islands before taking on Argentina the following day.
