Rain wreaks havoc on cricket schedule

The heavy downpours which have impacted the island over the past several days took its toll on the cricket schedule with only two of six matches being played this weekend.

The Premier Division 50 Overs fixtures between Cleveland and champions St David’s at Lords and Warwick and Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval were both rained out, as were the First Division 50 Overs encounters involving Flatts and the Bermuda Under-19 national team at the National Sports Centre North Field and Devonshire and Willow Cuts at Devonshire Recreation Club.

The Premier Division contest between Western Stars and St George’s at the National Sports Centre North Field and the First Division affair pitting Somerset Bridge against west end rivals and leaders Somerset at White Hill Field were the only fixtures that went ahead as planned with reduced overs.

The Bermuda Cricket Board has confirmed the matches that failed to get underway will be not rescheduled.

“There will be no replays,” Steven Douglas, the BCB cricket chairman, told The Royal Gazette.

When asked if the affected clubs would be allocated any points, Douglas added: “I cannot share with you any information until I have the reports in from the match officials.”
