After bringing down the previously undefeated St George’s in the Athene T20 League Premier Division, Somerset are targeting another victory against a top-two side when they face Bailey’s Bay tomorrow.

Somerset beat St George’s by 12 runs last Sunday in what was the first loss for Clay Smith’s team in the competition.

That success has excited Somerset coach Jeff Richardson who now wants to build on momentum with the scalp of Bay at Sea Breeze Oval.

“We have played Bailey’s Bay twice this season and lost but we should have won both of those matches,” Richardson said. “We’re looking for some sort of retribution on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Bay will be aiming to build on an emphatic 155-run success over Willow Cuts last time out.

Gus Logie’s side posted 209 for four, before restricting the opposition to just 54 for nine in reply.

Meanwhile, St George’s, the T20 champions for the past two seasons have a chance to bounce back to winning ways when they face bottom side St David’s.

With the weather conditions unpredictable this week, Smith chose not to correct the mistakes from last Sunday but prioritise the safety of his players and their families.

“We didn’t train this week, the weather’s not been conducive,” said Smith, who has faith in his squad to make amends.

“I pretty much gave my players the time off to get themselves sorted out, to make sure their families are fine. Family is a priority, cricket is second.

“If the game is on, my players are well drilled, know what to do, the game plan doesn’t change.

“I have full faith in my players to do what they have to do, they’ve been committed to this for the last two years. I have all the confidence in them to be able to bounce back and show some character.”

The remaining match sees Cuts take on Western Stars.
