Kamau Leverock not in squad for T20 World Cup qualifier
The Bermuda Cricket Board has announced the 15-man squad that will attempt to qualify for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup next month.
The squad will travel to Ontario to compete against host nation Canada, Bahamas and Cayman Islands to compete in six matches in a double round-robin format between June 8 and 23, with only the group winner guaranteed a spot at the World Cup in India next year.
There have been a number of changes made to the 14-man squad that travelled to Cayman to compete in the North American Cup last month, with Allan Douglas Jr and Southampton Rangers captain Dalin Richardson left out.
There is a recall for Tre Manders, who has been in good form recently for St David’s, while fast bowler Chare Smith, who is based overseas, has also been recalled along with Jonté Smith.
The big surprise is the continued omission of Kamau Leverock.
The all-rounder announced he was available for selection after reversing a 2024 decision to retire from international cricket, but remains on the sidelines because of unresolved differences that have yet to be disclosed by the player or the Bermuda Cricket Board.
Head coach Cal Waldron will continue to be assisted by West Indies Test coach Andre Coley in his role as high-performance consultant.
Bermuda will need to to beat Canada, who competed at the last T20 World Cup, at least once, if not twice, next month if they are to compete at a World Cup for the first time in two decades.
