Lord’s (Western Stars won toss): Western Stars beat PHC by 21 runs

Western Stars booked their spot in the T20 First Division Knockout final by beating PHC on Sunday.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Western Stars had a third-wicket partnership of 56 between Jamori Manders and Kevin Hurdle to primarily thank for their score of 130 being just too much for PHC to chase down.

PHC made a good start to the game, getting the crucial wicket of Stars captain and opening batter Ryan Tyrrell for just seven. Jaiden Manders, in at No 3, made 12 before he was bowled by Koshun Durrant.

Coming in at 47 for two alongside Jamori Manders, Hurdle went on the attack from ball one, hitting 35 off just 17 balls before he was caught by Dionte Dowling off the bowling of Sage Carter.

That dismissal left Stars on 103 for three after 14.3 overs but instead of finishing the final few overs in style, they lost six wickets for just 27 runs as they stumbled through the rest of the innings to finish on 130 for nine.

Outside the Stars top four, no batter made it into double figures, with PHC’s 20 extras, including 13 wides, helping to bolster the total. Durrant was the pick of the PHC bowlers with three for 28 from his four overs and Carter recorded figures of two for seven from just two overs. Charles Trott, Dowling and Chris Douglas all picked up one wicket apiece.

In response, PHC were in with a chance of winning halfway through the innings with opener Ori Wilson and No 4 Charles Trott at the crease and the score 62 for two after 8.3 overs.

Their partnership came about after the dismissals of opener Douglas, who was trapped leg before by Seth Campbell for eight, and PHC captain Davin Dill, who was caught behind by Temeiko Wilson off the same bowler.

But after PHC’s Ori Wilson was caught by Brian Hall off the bowling of Phillip Thomas, the run-rate slowed considerably with no batter managing to occupy the crease for a sustained period of time.

PHC scored just 47 runs from the final 68 balls, finishing their innings on 109 for eight. Campbell was the pick of the Stars bowlers with three for 17 from his four overs, with Jaiden Manders and Hall picking up two wickets each.
