Willow Cuts give Devonshire Rec free pass into First Division KO final

Devonshire Rec advanced to the final of the First Division KO Cup after Willow Cuts failed to turn up for their semi-final today.

After a delay caused by the bad weather, groundsmen Paul Carr and Allan Douglas Sr prepared the wicket and turned it over to umpires Wendy Woodley and Alex Knights, who had deemed the pitch playable — but only Devonshire Rec players were present to take the toss.

When Shaquille Pitcher handed in his club’s teamsheet and with no Cuts players present, the umpires declared the match a forfeit at 12.50pm and pulled stumps.

Going into weekend, Cuts officials were said to be disgruntled that the match was scheduled at their opponents’ home ground despite them finishing higher in the 50 Overs league.

Devonshire Rec will play the winners of Southampton Rangers and PHC in the final.

The match at Southampton Oval has been restricted to a 20-overs match.

UPDATE: this article has been amended with a change in status of the Southampton-PHC match
