Bermuda cricket umpire Precious Smith continues to catch the eyes of some of the game’s top decision makers after being given the chance to officiate at the Bolivarian Games in Lima, Peru.

In his congratulatory message to Smith, Emmerson Carrington, the Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association president, said that her latest assignment is a reward for Smith’s exceptional display in the middle this year.

“This appointment is due to her outstanding performance this past season and is testament to her ability to officiate at the highest level,” Carrington said.

“Smith continues to create history, as both male and female teams from Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad will be competing in cricket for the first time at the Games.”

This is the third time that the 29-year-old has officiated overseas. Previously, Smith umpired at the Georgia Women Cricket Association T20 and the South American Championships.

It has been a year of firsts for the former Bermuda player as she became the first woman to stand in the middle at Eastern Counties. She also formed part of the umpiring team at Cup Match.

With mentorship from West Indies female umpire Jacqueline Williams, who was there to watch her make her Cup Match debut at Wellington Oval, the Bermudian is on a path that could see her officiate at some of the game’s biggest events.
