Scam e-mail warning issued: –The Olympics doesn’t have a lottery

The Bermuda Police Service yesterday issued a warning to the public over an e-mail scam claiming to be from the London 2012 Olympic Organising Committee.

A spokeswoman for the service said that an e-mail is making the rounds claiming that the recipient has son a £2 million lottery.

“The e-mail states that in order to claim the money, the recipient must disclose their personal information such as their name, occupation, home and e-mail addresses, telephone number and passport number,” the spokeswoman said.

“Residents should ignore these unsolicited messages or similar ‘official looking e-mails’ claiming to offer prize money by requiring the recipients personal information.”

Anyone who has been affected by this scam is asked to call the Financial Crime Unit at 295-0011.
