Citizens save woman’s bag

A woman had her stolen handbag returned after bystanders chased the suspected thief through Hamilton.

The 35-year-old woman had her bag snatched from her parked bike on Reid Street at around 8.45pm on Monday, a Police spokesman said.

“The suspect was initially pursued by members of the public and initially managed to elude them,” the spokesman said. “However he was later located on Bermudiana Road by a member of the public, who contacted police.”

Officers approached and arrested the suspect, a 35-year-old Southampton man. They were able to recover both the stolen bag and its contents.

“The Bermuda Police Service would like to commend the actions of those who came to the assistance of the victim in this matter,” the spokesman said.
