Thief grabs woman’s handbag outside house

A thief grabbed a woman’s handbag as she got out of her car outside her home, police said today.

“Around 11.30pm on Thursday, police responded to a reported handbag snatch on Broken Hill Lane in Smith’s. It appears that the victim, a 27-year-old woman, was accosted by an unknown man as she exited her car outside her home,” a Police spokesman said.

“The suspect, described as a black male approximately 6ft wearing a white hooded top, T-shirt, jeans and sneakers, took the victim’s handbag and made good his escape on foot. The woman was not injured.

“Officers conducted a search of the vicinity; but the culprit was not located. However, the victim’s handbag was subsequently located in the surrounding area by a member of the public who contacted police, resulting in the recovery of the handbag and its contents.

“Inquiries are ongoing and any witnesses or anyone with any information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Constable Anthony Bartley at the St George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.”
