Police arrest 11 people on impaired driving charges

The long National Heroes Day weekend landed eleven people in trouble with the law on suspicion of impaired driving in addition to 16 arrests for outstanding warrants.Officers on mobile patrol arrested a 25-year-old Devonshire man at 2.30am on Monday after he was spotted driving erratically on St David’s Road in St George’s.A police spokesman said he “appeared to be intoxicated” when asked to step out of the SUV.He was subsequently arrested and detained in custody and a court appearance is anticipated in due course.Meanwhile, a 41-year-old Sandys man who was also spotted riding a motorcycle erratically was arrested on South Road in Paget around 1.40am on Saturday.He too was detained overnight in police custody and a court appearance is pending.Officers on patrol also conducted routine liquor licensing checks at various licensed premises around the island over the holiday weekend.And the Police Marine Unit responded to four reports of marine vessels in need of assistance on Sunday during the inclement weather conditions. One private vessel was escorted safely back to shore.A spokesman said the other vessels were able to make it safely ashore without incident.All reported vessels, their operators and occupants were accounted for and there were no reported injuries.
