Two arrested over Woody’s gun incident

Police are holding two men in custody in connection with a firearms incident at Woody’s Bar in Sandys.A Police spokesman yesterday said officers are still investigating the August 25 incident, in which a man brandishing what appeared to be a large automatic firearm at a crowd of people at the bar and restaurant.The weapon did not fire, and the suspect subsequently fled the area.“This is alleged to have occurred about 10pm on Saturday August 25,” the spokesman said. “Two men were arrested on Wednesday, September 12, and currently remain in police custody as investigations continue.“Items seized during the course of the investigation including CCTV, and swabs from other exhibits have been sent overseas for examination and we await the results.“Other avenues of investigation continue, some of which have led to the arrest of the persons currently in police custody.”The Police continue to call on members of the public to come forward with information about the incident.“Investigators are eager to speak with anyone that may have any information in relation to this incident whether they believe it to be important or not to contact police or the Crime Stoppers confidential hotline.“The potential for serious harm to occur during this particular incident was significant if the weapon had discharged.”The Serious Crime Unit can be reached on 247-1739, while Crimestoppers can be contacted at 800-8477.
