Woman denies cheque forgery charges

A 24-year-old Southampton woman has been charged in Magistrates’ Court with theft plus six counts linked to cheque forgery.

Anthanay Steede, of Tribe Road No 3, denied stealing Butterfield Bank cheques belonging to Bermuda Motors between January 21 and 23.

She pleaded not guilty to using a forged cheque at CellOne in Pembroke on February 18, inducing a cashier to accept it, and obtaining a Samsung phone.

Ms Steede further denied the same at February 22 in Paget’s Modern Mart store, where she was accused of obtaining various groceries.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released her on $1,000 bail plus one surety, and ordered her to return to court on May 30.
