Motorcyclist injured in Warwick crash

A 51-year-old Devonshire man is listed in stable condition on a general ward at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital following a single vehicle accident yesterday morning.

The accident occurred on St Mary’s Road in Warwick near the junction with Lorraine Drive at about 12.15am.

The motorcycle rider who was rushed to hospital via ambulance was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. A court appearance is expected in due course.

Meanwhile, police are urging residents to be extra vigilant following a recent spate of daytime burglaries in Smith’s parish where jewellery and electronic items topped the list of stolen goods.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or individuals in their neighbourhoods.

Residents are also urged to double check that doors and windows are locked before leaving their homes unoccupied, even for short periods of time.

A spokesman said: “We also continue to recommend that all residents secure their valuables out of sight, record serial numbers and details of all personal items as well as photograph their possessions — in particular electronic equipment and jewellery — so that if they are stolen and later recovered, there is an accurate way of identifying them.”

Any suspicious activity should be reported at the earliest opportunity by contacting the nearest police station or calling the main police number 295-0011.
