Painter drove while impaired

A Pembroke painter was banned from the road yesterday after admitting drinking and driving.

Aaron Moniz, 24, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court of driving while impaired in an incident on Saturday.

The court heard that at around 12.30am, officers on mobile patrol saw Moniz travelling at high speed along Trimingham Road. The officers signalled at Moniz to stop, but he continued onto Trimingham Drive, and then The Lane with the officers in pursuit.

He was eventually stopped on Berry Hill Road. Talking to police, the officers noticed his breath smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot and glazed.

They arrested Moniz, who responded: “I only had four drinks.”

After pleading guilty, Moniz apologised for the incident, saying his actions were stupid. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Moniz $1,000, banning him from driving all vehicles for a period of one year.
