Man remains in custody after Deepdale murder

A Warwick man remained in police custody yesterday as detectives continued to investigate the murder of Morlan Steede.

The local man, said to be in his mid-twenties, was arrested after Mr Steede was shot dead in the Two-Way Deepdale area of Pembroke on Friday night.

Police said that Mr Steede, 30, was repeatedly shot by a lone gunman as he ran for his life along Two-Way Deepdale before he collapsed on Parson's Road.

Last night, a spokesman confirmed that no other arrests had been made.

Mr Steede, who was born in Jamaica, had close links with the Deepdale area, although at the time of his death he was living in Hamilton Parish. Known to his friends as “Clappa” he was married and had a four-year-old daughter.

Detectives previously confirmed that Mr Steede was not known to police.

On Monday, they appealed to a motorcyclist who turned into Two-Way Deepdale at the time of the murder and a taxi driver who was on Parson's Road at the same time to contact the Serious Crime Unit.

Mr Steede's death marks the third gun killing and fifth murder of 2017.

Anyone with information on the murder should contact Inspector Michael Redfern on 247-1365 or Detective Sergeant Smith on 717-0864.

Calls can also be made to the anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
