Police have warned against an internet phishing scam posing as a paid survey on behalf of a cellular and internet service company.A police spokesman said that people have been invited to participate in a survey on a website claiming to represent Digicel Bermuda and pay a delivery fee between $1 and $5.People who take part are offered an iPhone 11 or a free Samsung device as part of a Digicel Customer Reward Programme in return.The police spokesman said that Digicel Bermuda has confirmed that the company is not currently running any such campaign.He added: “While the Digicel logo on the offending website appears legitimate, this is yet another example of a phishing scam, designed to steal consumer’s personal information, take money and/or steal credit card details.”Anyone who may have been contacted and asked to participate in this “Digicel Customer Reward Programme” is advised not to do so and instead contact the Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit on 247-1757, or via e-mail, fraud2@bps.bmAdvice on how to avoid and report internet or other scams can also be found at https://www.gov.bm/how-avoid-and-report-scams.Further, anyone with information regarding fake websites is encouraged to cal the main police line, 295-0011.
