A man was shot on a busy street yesterday evening. He was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance after the incident on Middle Road in Warwick at about 5.20pm.Detective Inspector Kenten Trott said: “This incident happened in a busy street, on a busy afternoon, and when the police arrived there were many people here.“We’re asking for those people to please contact us and give us as much information as possible.“Anything you might have, anything you might know, please let us know so that we can progress this investigation.”Mr Trott said that although it was early in the investigation, it appeared that the man’s injury was a gunshot wound. He added that it did not appear that the incident was connected to any nearby businesses.A resident in the area said he heard two loud bangs and thought at first it was a bike backfiring. He added: “I ran outside — then everybody scattered, from what I saw.”Part of Middle Road between the car park for shops, including Warwick Pharmacy and The Sports Source, and the junction with St Mary’s Road, was blocked while officers carried out inquiries. The BPS said that Detective Sergeant Dean Martin had been appointed to head the inquiry and anyone with information could call the main police number on 295-0011.
