Warning over phishing scam

Police today warned of a scam e-mail that claimed to promote an investment opportunity endorsed by the Premier.

David Burt was referred to as “Prime Minister Burt” in the e-mail, which asked people to invest in a cryptocurrency scheme with the promise of significant returns.

But the e-mail, if opened, will forward the user to a fraudulent investment platform designed to collect bank card details.

A police spokesman warned that phishing scams changed on a regular basis and reminded the public to be more vigilant than usual in these “difficult economic times”.
