Officer convicted of sexually assaulting colleague

A police officer convicted of sexually assaulting a colleague will be sentenced in October.Constable Jermari Belboda, 25, was found guilty in Magistrates’ Court of an assault on a 24-year-old female constable.The court on Monday heard that Belboda inappropriately touched the victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, while she slept.She later reported the incident, which happened in the early hours of December 5, 2018 in Pembroke, and an investigation was held.Belboda appeared in Magistrates’ Court on March 28 last year and pleaded not guilty.The trial started on January 1 and ended on Monday.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released Belboda on $5,000 bail and adjourned the case until October 16 for sentencing.Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley said: “Pc Belboda remains suspended from duty pending the completion of the disciplinary process, which has been on hold until the resolution of the criminal process.”A police spokesman declined yesterday to comment further.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
