Man injured after shooting

An allotment next to a popular Court Street restaurant appeared to be the scene of a shooting on Saturday night in which a 30-year-old man was injured.

Business owners in the area said the victim might have been chased into the open area just north of the Jamaican Grill.

A police spokeswoman said an investigation had been launched after gunshots were reported shortly before midnight on Saturday.

She said a check of the scene confirmed that a gun had been fired and the area was forensically processed.

She added: “A short time later, a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound was transported to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries, which are not considered to be life threatening.

“He was treated then later discharged. It is confirmed that the two incidents are connected.”

Anyone who was in the Court Street area at the time of the incident, drove through the area with a dash camera between 11.30pm and 12.30am, or anyone who may have information about this incident is urged to get in touch with police.

People can contact Acting Inspector Jason Smith on 211 or 717-0864 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477.
