Shots fired in Court Street area

Police have confirmed a shooting incident on Saturday night in the area of Court Street and Elliot Street in North East Hamilton.

Officers were dispatched to the area shortly after 11pm after a report of gunshots heard in the vicinity.

“Officers conducted a search and recovered one spent shell,” a police spokesman said. “There were no reports of anyone being injured. Subsequent checks at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital indicated no one had visited the facility seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.”

An investigation into this incident has begun.

The spokesman added that there were several people at nearby establishments at the time of the incident and anyone with any information on this matter should call the main police number, 295-0011.

“You may also call the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477,” he said. “Alternatively, we urge you to share the information with a police officer you know.”

This was the second confirmed firearms incident of the week, after a 30-year-old man was discovered shot on Tribe Road No 5 near Ord Road, Paget, on Wednesday.
