Suspected Tyrell aide taken into custody
A man who was sought by police in connection with continuing inquiries has been arrested and another was taken into custody on suspicion of assisting the 23-year-old.
The arrest of Jeremiah Tyrell “in connection with an ongoing investigation” was confirmed today by the Bermuda Police Service.
Police appealed for help to find Mr Tyrell in May, when it was believed that he may have been able to help officers with inquiries.
No further details about the investigation were provided by the BPS, but it is understood that the arrest was in connection with a double murder at Legends Bar in Somerset.
Jasmin Smith, 32, and Shaquan Williams, 29, were killed when shots were fired at patrons in the venue at about 10.30pm on May 1.
The BPS statement added: “Officers are also actively looking into how Mr Tyrell was able to avoid arrest for over two months and who may have assisted in his efforts to evade police.”
Police said that as part of their inquiries, a 55-year-old man was taken into police custody yesterday on suspicion of aiding Mr Tyrell.
“A residence in Hamilton Parish was searched and several items were seized as part of that operation,” they added.
Detective Superintendent Sherwin Joseph, who leads the BPS crime division, said: “We are truly grateful to those members of the public who have come forward so far and assisted us.
“The information you provided has helped move this investigation forward in a meaningful way.
“I wish to remind residents that harbouring persons wanted in connection with suspected criminal activity is a serious offence.
“We believe there are still individuals who have knowledge about who may have helped or sheltered Mr Tyrell.
“If that’s you or someone you know, we need to hear from you.”
Anyone with information, even if it might seem insignificant, was encouraged to call Detective Chief Inspector Derricka Burns on 717-0921.
