Police make three arrests within four hours
Police responded to three separate incidents in the central parishes within four hours overnight on Thursday.
A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said officers stopped a teenager on a bike near the 24-hour Esso petrol station on Richmond Road, Pembroke, at about 11.10pm.
The bike was reported stolen and the 17-year-old girl was charged with theft and driving while disqualified.
Police said officers followed another female teenager on a motorcycle after she ignored a stop sign near The Lane and Stowe Hill in Paget at about 12.30am.
The BPS said that the rider ignored multiple other road signs, including red lights, rode the wrong way on a one-way street and managed to temporarily avoid police.
Officers found the 19-year-old, who tried to flee on foot, and apprehended her for dangerous driving.
The teenager showed signs of impairment and a test found she had more than the legal blood-alcohol limit in her system, the BPS said.
Police who responded to a reported dispute outside the Front Yard bar on Front Street in Hamilton at about 3am found a man holding a large knife outside the business.
Officers seized the weapon and arrested the man for knife possession.
The 61-year-old is expected to appear before the court in connection with the incident.
Acting Detective Superintendent Derricka Burns, of the serious crime unit, thanked people who reported the incident and highlighted the dangers of carrying weapons in public.
She said: “Individuals who go armed in public pose a threat to not only other members of the public, but also themselves, as they face having the weapon taken away and used against them by their intended target, or by being targeted for retaliation.
“If you feel threatened, do not arm yourself; report your concern to someone in authority.”
