Police arrested two teenagers for traffic-related infractions over the weekend.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said officers saw a female riding at speed on Cobb’s Hill Road at about 11.20pm on August 22.

The 17-year-old rode away from police, almost collided with a vehicle on Middle Road and overtook others on a series of blind bends before eventually stopping on Harbour Road near Warwick Park Road.

Officers arrested the teenager for failing to stop for police and disqualified driving, and was ticketed for having an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle while riding under the age of 18. She has since been bailed and is to appear before the courts.

Police saw another teenager riding at speed on Southside Road near the junction with Stocks Road in St George’s shortly after 5pm on August 23.

The 17-year-old boy rode away from police along St David’s Road and appeared to have discarded an item, revealed to have been a knife, near Pizza House restaurant.

The motorist was stopped near Texas Road and arrested for knife possession, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified by reason of age.

The spokesman said Section 315(f) of the Criminal Code, which allows police to stop and search people in anticipation of violence, has “resulted in a number of arrests for possessions of bladed weapons, possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply and outstanding warrants”.

Robert Cardwell, the Acting Superintendent for the BPS Tactical Division, said: “We fully understand and appreciate there may be some inconvenience caused while we carry out these stop-and-search operations.

“However, we want to reassure the public that these efforts are part of your police service working diligently to prevent further violence, disrupt criminal activity, and bring offenders to justice.

“We thank you for your patience and co-operation as we continue this work.”
