Police have called for the public’s help after receiving several reports of gunshots in Smith’s last night but finding no evidence to back up the reports.

Officers were called to the Town Hill Road area near Harrington Sound at about 11.50pm.

They conducted multiple searches but were unable to find evidence of where the shots may have been fired.

Checks were also made at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital but no one was reported being admitted with gunshot wounds.

This morning, police conducted further searches of the area but still found no evidence of a firearm being discharged.

Checks of CCTV cameras in the area did not turn up anything to back up the reports of gunshots.

Police urged anyone in the area to review their CCTV and door cameras for any suspicious activity that may have been captured between 11.30pm and midnight last night.

Anyone with information was urged to call the main police number, 295-0011, or the non-emergency reporting number, 211.
